PRESERVING DIFFERENTLY
SAFEGUARDING BIODIVERSITY AND ECOSYSTEMS
COMMITMENT NO. 8 - SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY AND GENERAL INTEREST
Protecting species and natural ecosystems is a new challenge for CEPOVETT.
After introducing a bee awareness programme 10 years ago, the company is now refocusing its efforts on protecting marine and land ecosystems. Through its biodiversity conservation programmes, it is extending the scope of its initiatives to include the protection of endangered species and environmental conservation.
Restoring mangroves in Madagascar
Following on from the reforestation programme initiated by CEPOVETT/Epsilon which has been renewed until 2026, with the aim of replanting 30,000 trees each year, a new phase has been launched to support the reforestation of mangroves. In addition to replanting eucalyptus and other fruit trees, the Group has launched an operation to restore and protect mangroves, which encourage the establishment and reproduction of a wide range of aquatic species (fish and crustaceans). These rooted trees also protect coastlines from erosion and extreme weather phenomena while contributing to water quality by filtering nutrients and sediments. With their exceptional carbon capture potential, mangroves are ecosystems that help maintain biodiversity and are key to combating climate change. On a global scale, mangroves account for almost 1% of the world's tropical forests.
