20 April 2025As part of its mangrove restoration programme in Boeny, Madagascar, EPSILON and its partner Bôndy have restored more than 378 hectares since 2021 and created 300 jobs in the three communes involved (Boanamary, Belobaka and Marovoay).
1,428 hectares of degraded mangroves have been identified for restoration. This programme aims to combat deforestation and offer sustainable income alternatives to the island’s inhabitants. EPSILON and Bôndy are actively involving local communities in the planting and through mangrove conservation initiatives, such as beekeeping and mangrove silk production. These sustainable activities enable villagers to become economically self-sufficient while preserving their environment. Restoring the mangroves brings many direct benefits to the local communities of Maromiandra, particularly in terms of essential natural resources, including increased fish stocks and the protection of crab stocks. This initiative improves catches for local fishermen and provides a stable source of food and income in addition to the daily planting.
