Cepovett carbon footprint
20 April 2025AI to accelerate SME growth
20 April 2025With an average water consumption of around 12,000 litres of irrigation water to produce 1 kg of cotton, the leading textile material is gradually losing out to natural, local raw materials such as flax and hemp, which do not require irrigation systems.
In order to reduce their environmental footprint, particularly in terms of water, companies are trying to reduce the use of cotton in favour of more local, bio-sourced or recycled natural materials, and are favouring short circuits, which are less carbon-intensive. Produced almost exclusively in the European Union, and mainly in France, where it is grown on 15,000 hectares a year (75% of world production comes from the Normandy region), fibre flax is the product of know-how acquired by a French industry of excellence, from producer to scorer, which has no equivalent anywhere in the world. The Terre de Lin cooperative, which specialises in growing and processing fibre flax, is one of the flagships of this industry. Based in Haute-Normandie, the cooperative brings together 600 farmer-members and 220 employees who share the same passion for flax, while respecting people and the environment.
