Safeguarding bees in Madagascar

Madagascar is one of the world's 10 biodiversity hotspots, hosting an unparalleled biodiversity of both animals and plants. However, this heritage is today severely threatened with more than 16,000 species in danger of extinction.

CEPOVETT Group has decided to contribute to the preservation of local biodiversity by installing beehives near its reforestation areas. This experimentation attempts to reintroduce and develop an endemic bee variety that is threatened while contributing to the pollination of local fruit species, such as the famous Madagascar vanilla. Carried out in collaboration with local populations, this socio-economic and environmental approach also aims to provide training in modern beekeeping practices to people in difficulty in order to contribute to their professional integration.

If the results at the end of 2016 are positive, CEPOVETT Group plans to implement an ambitious programme.
